What economics and physics tell us about the #cleantech revolution and the race to #netzero | analysis, commentary and the occasional prediction
Hi there, I'm Phil and I write about scaling disruptive technology and new ideas for a more efficient global energy transition and more effective climate action!
Since 2010, I have been a passionate CleanTech advocate and have helped establish three pioneering energy storage companies.
Trained as an economist, I started my career in investment banking, built an early internet policy-focused website and then became a journalist and press spokesman. Working closely with dedicated (and very patient) engineers, I immersed myself in the technology required for a successful energy transition, particularly hybrid storage-backed renewables-based microgrids, frequency regulation and voltage control, various kinds of energy storage, especially batteries and thermal energy storage and cost-effective system integration of PV and wind energy.
Excited by the abundance of technological climate solutions but frustrated by the lack of adequate regulation, I co-founded an energy market design think tank within the German Green Party and have been actively working on energy market design since 2017.
I have co-authored several papers/studies on the International Energy Transition, Energy Market Design and Energy Transition Foreign Policy.
I’m currently building a next-level think tank aimed at lowering energy costs for European businesses and consumers by effectively leveraging the impressive insights and know-how of leading energy transition pioneers.
Employing the basic laws of physics and economics. here I’ll reflect on what I’ve learned from 14 years at the technological vanguard.
